CFT Passes the “Our Lives Our Safety” Resolution on a Safe Reopening of Schools

We want to thank all of you who helped contribute to CFT/CFOP’s “Our Lives, Our Safety” Resolution on Reopening Schools”! It is the result of over 1,000 hours of focus groups, survey responses, dialogue and research, and offers a framework of the concerns you shared about CPS employees and students safely returning to school given the deadly nature of COVID-19.

In the days following the transition to remote instruction because of the pandemic, we were concerned about the lack of transparency and consistency of communications coming from the District. We decided that a robust plan to ensure the safety of every employee and student in this District must be centered in our member’s expertise – the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers and Cincinnati Federation of Office Professionals. Without transparency and joint decision-making, there is a real risk of distrust, the spread of misinformation, and a lack of compliance with the reopening plan. We look forward to working with the District on a safe reopening. The survival of our District depends on our educators trusting their schools will be safe, and our families trusting that their children will be safe. Check out our #TrustTeachers #OurLivesOurSafety series on our social media offers highlights of the Resolution with the CPS community. Thank you again for all your hard work to ensure a safe return!
