Individual Professional Development Plan
All employees of Cincinnati Public Schools that hold Professional (eight-‐ year) Certificates or an Ohio License (five-‐year) must have an approved Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) on file with the Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC). The only continuing education credits that will count towards your license renewal are those aligned to your IPDP AND are earned after your approved IPDP was on file. The LPDC is committee of teachers developed to assist you with this process. Information about contacting the LPDC as well as the process and forms to complete an IPDP are available on Staffnet. To access this information go to Departments then LPDC Committee. Make sure you have an approved IPDP on file today! (This policy does not apply to teachers working under a Resident Educator, AEL, or Permanent License or Certificate.)
When completing your IPDP you will be asked to identify u to two goals, so you can align your professional development activities. In order to use professional development activities towards you license renewal, it will have to align to one of these goals. Therefore, you might want to consider making one of your goals general enough to encompass all of the professional development that you participate in through CPS and Mayerson Academy. An example goal might be: “I will engage in professional development designed to increase my effectiveness as a classroom teacher and member of a learning community. These activities will improve teaching and learning in my classroom as well as the classrooms of my peers.” Standard 7-‐Teachers assume responsibility for professional growth, performance and involvement as an individual and as
member of learning community.
Online License Renewal
Educator licenses are now only renewable online. ODE is reminding teachers to renew early to assure the renewal is complete before the expiration date of the current license. To renew online all educators must have a SAFE account. There are 30,000 teachers in the state of Ohio whose licenses are up for renewal that do not have one of these accounts. The accounts are also necessary to sign up for ODE sponsored professional development and to regularly review your license information. Permanent and Non-‐Tax Certificate Holders
Those educators, who were fortunate enough to obtain a permanent certificate before they discontinued issuing them several years ago, do not have to worry about the preceding information regarding the IPDP and license renewal. However, it is important that you are aware of the requirement for permanent and non-‐tax certificate holders to get a criminal background check every five years. It is important that you check and monitor your status through a SAFE account, please do not rely solely on CPS for reminders that you of the need to get this done. ODE will inactivate the certificates of those whose backgrounds checks expired and were not updated. The link below will provide you with more information on how to get this done.
