Cincinnati Public Schools-Miami University Leadership Program

Cincinnati Public Schools-Miami University Leadership Program

Accepting Applications for 2020-21 Cohort

Deadline Extended to April 6, 2020

Do you want to improve your effectiveness as a CPS teacher leader?  Do you want to become a CPS administrator?  The CPS-Miami Leadership Program provides an outstanding opportunity for CPS teachers to pursue professional goals and develop skills that are aligned to the ODE teacher leadership framework.

A great partnership
Cincinnati Public Schools and Miami University have partnered once again to offer graduate-level coursework provided locally at a greatly reduced rate.  The CPS-Miami Leadership Program starts with a four-course introductory sequence.   Each course provides three semester hours of credit (see attached descriptions).  After completing the 12 hours of courses, CPS teachers can apply those hours toward the 30 semester-hour M.Ed. in school leadership, which includes an administrator’s certificate.

Huge savings for CPS teachers
A three-hour graduate course would normally cost $1726.44.   Through the generosity of Miami University, CPS teachers who live in Ohio, Kentucky or Indiana can take the courses for $460 per course.  So, the total for all 4 courses will be $1852.88--a savings of over $5,000.

Expectations and qualifications
Teachers who apply for the leadership courses are expected to commit to taking all four courses, making this a step in their growth in leadership. * It is also expected that cohort members will then continue as teacher leaders or enter a program to become  CPS administrators.
§  The cohort will be limited to 20 teachers.
§  Classes will begin August 24, 2020, and end May 13, 2021, and will be held weekly at LaunchEd from        4:30-7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays or Thursdays.
§  Priority will be given to applicants in the following circumstances:

  • Teachers with a history of classroom success, demonstrated by ratings of skilled or accomplished on OTES evaluations
  • Teachers whose acceptance would create a cluster of two or more participants in a particular school
  • Teachers from Title I schools
  • Teachers who have Lead Teacher credentials or are in the process of obtaining them

*There is a high level of competition for these cohort spots.  If a teacher drops out, that deprives another CPS teacher from both professional growth and great financial savings.  Please be certain that you will be able to meet your financial obligation each semester and that you are committed to the program and growth as a leader.
